Since a fairly popular person is currently circulating the suggestion to donate to the salvation army, let me quickly remind you that they're not the best place to give your money to if you care about LGBT issues.
* They actively campaign against LGBT issues
* They hold homeless people hostage in their campaigns. (NY, 2004)
* They completely deny the identity of trans people. At least one person probably died at least in part due to that (http://texascivilrightsreview.org/phpnuke/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=1309)
